In his post on Mamma Mia ( which I enjoyed reading) Barry Holland said that his
old club,founded in 1938, the W.L.M.C.C. was the "oldest club on the canals",
sorry Barry, the Mersey Motor Boat Club at Litherland on the Leeds and
Liverpool canal was founded in 1932 and claims to be the oldest canal club
still in existance. The oldest club on the narrow canals is The North Cheshire
Cruising Club founded in 1943 of which I have been a member since 1967. CKP
