Having driven up last night, we started today by visiting the church of St. Edward the Confessor at Cheddleton. This wonderful building contains stained glass windows by Burne-Jones and William Morris and is a must see when on the Caldon if you are interested in Pre-Raphaelite art.
Back to Jannock and we pulled the pins at 10:30 and set off towards the Trent and Mersey. Through the Stockton Brook locks by 12:30 having filled with water and done a book swap at Park Lane services. Once down through the Etruria staircase we were second in the queue for Stoke top lock. At Cockshutts lock we waited whilst the butty Ilford was brought up manually with the Roger Fuller boat towing it waiting above the top gates. Then another queue and blackberrying session at the painfully slow to fill Stoke bottom lock before we were off and out to Trentham to moor for the night on the visitor moorings by Hemsheath Bridge. Fruit of the day has been big fat juicy blackberries that seem to have a hint of sherbert in their taste. Graham www.jannock.org.uk [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
