I reckon most people who don't want lockside bollard are probably boaters
who have 57ft+ boats and aren't generally (never?) single-handing. I really 
think they
should show some consideration for the needs of single-handers with shorter 
boats.

However, I do agree that 3 bollards per lock is overkill. One bollard should 
be
adequate! And talking of Genesis (whatever context that is being used in 
this topic?),
the vast majority of narrow locks used to have at least one lockside bollard 
40 years
ago. So why not restore the original lock furniture?

What is really needed, IMHO, is bollards above and below all locks for a 
distance of
200 yards - sadly lacking at many locks
