We started late today due to a combination of last night's mini GiG and this
mornings rain. We passed through Aston lock and were amazed at the amount
of standing water in the fields alongside the cut. At some places the water
was running across the towpath into the canal from the aforementioned
fields. As we approached Sandon lock, we were warned by a Northbound boater
that BW had closed it to southbound craft whilst they adjusted the water
levels in the next pound. When we moored up above the lock we were 13th in
the queue. In order to pass time, we invited the crew from the boat behind
us aboard for a coffee and then I went and did an oilchange and general
Kubota service. Once this work was complete we then moved forward with the
now moving queue to pass through the lock. We were through and on our way
again by 4:30 and then experienced no further problems finally mooring
opposite the new marina just north of Gt. Haywood. We sat down to our
evening meal feeling rather jealous as we had just heard that Matt had
caught and eaten over 100 crayfish at home yesterday.
