As BW want something innovative and radical for the MK Link, couldn't
Santa
bring some of the ice from the North Pole (while it's still there!)
and
create a boat slide - a sheet of ice to slide the boat down the hill.
By attaching
a rope and winch, it should be relatively easy to attach a hawser to
pull a
boat upwards - apart from the distance involved of course!

(Me) I would have thought a nice carpet of Teflon-coated bankers would
do the trick??

Or resurrect the vacuum railway that Burrell 'invented' - fit a piston
to
the boat and insert the piston into a vacuum tube alongside the slide
to suck it
  up the hill.

I'm sure an Icelandic finance company would see the sense in the
concept and
  back it.

(Me) But would the rats gnaw away at a financial vacuum?
