Well said Gary George! I wholeheartedly agree with everything you said. Mainly too many white collar Staff and executives, wasting shedloads of money. The canals usd to be dredged the "Old Fashioned way" with the mud and sludge being deposited on the banks. I believe this is not allowed any more. Ancient Canals ought to be maintained in the traditional manner. This is partly what gave the canals their charm and interest. Carting the dredged material is too costly. Beaver (Manual) workers, Canal Banksmen, who look after them should be in abundence, Dredgers should be working all day every day, along all the canals, not tied up week after week - no employees being in sight. Grass cutting and strimmers should be put back into store and the REAL canal work should be undertaken. Get rid of ALL the parasites drawing substancial wages. Get rid of a lot of the middle men. Half a dozen regional managers, under an Executive finance wizzard, and lots more hands on staff, would be a much better use of labour, in my view more wisely distributed. I'm with you 100% of the way with your comment. None of us should be prepared to watch the demise of the canals nor the standards dropping year after year, whilst hoards of money is wasted on silly whims and fancies of the few. My three highest priorities would be, major work on LOCKS, BANK ERROSION, DREDGING, and forget wooden bollards, posts, abundence of costly signs, grass cutting, wardens (Tin Pot Gastapo types some of them are, although I must admit other wardens are very nice people but mainly unnecessary. The local banksman on his stretch should undertake the smooth running of his/her stretch. I could add more to the start of your "Thread" Gary. I'm sure most of us "Boaters" are with you, perhaps with slightly a various idea of the priorities. Down to earth though - What can a solitary indiviual do, against the "BW System"?
