Some years ago I was told by the engineer at Barnhurst (3million gallons into 
Shroppie and 6 into S&W daily average) that it comes out the pipes at 'drinking 
water quality' but they wouldn't recommend drinking it as seagulls sit on the 
outfalls and crap in it! Whatever the quality the weeds seems to grow well 
downstream.
 
Strangely enough at another nearby plant (2 million)  that does stink the weed 
growth is much less, though from all the fishermen here whatever comes out of 
the pipes into the cut seems to attract fish.

Going by the smell of the water at our moorings, not very well. It always
smells like the inside of a washing machine there. (and I don't need to
'boil wash' Jannock!)
