Hair splitting... You still don't pay any VAT. Hence the success of play.com and jersey.tesco.com to buy VAT free DVDs and CDs. There has been pressure put on the Channel Islands to 'discourage' British companies from setting up off-shore retail business purely to avoid the payment of VAT and getting an 'unfair advantage' over other UK firms (the government expression, not mine). Certainly Guernsey has declared that unless a firm has historic links with the island then they will be required to close down their operations by a certain date. The official line from the Bailiwicks is that off-shore retail businesses such as jersey.tesco.com reflect badly on the reputation of the islands. I leave you to speculate why the Channels Islands are really shutting down these businesses while still allowing others to set up nominee businesses to avoid tax. ;-) DaveD I raise money for charity just by searching the web! www.everyclick.com is an internet search engine with a big difference - it donates half its revenues to charity, please support them too!
