Followers of my blog will now that the Christmas holiday period was
made more interesting for by our Jabsco ParMax3 water pump deciding
to show the following symptoms just as all the chandlers closed for
the holiday:
* weeping from the pump body
*struggling to reach cut off pressure
*sounding like a bag of spanners dropped on the shop floor.
The accumulator is also past its best, but does hold pressure for a
few days at least - I'm waiting for a replacement from Limekiln.
Meantime, I'm just keeping it pumped up for the moment.
Acting on the published advice of Mr Brooks of this parish, I have
today obtained a replacement and fitted it. Must say in passing that
this was made especially easy by the plug in connectors now used on
this pump - it was a case of slide the connectors out of the old one
and straight into the new one, connect up the wiring and away you go.
On examination and disassembly of the old pump, there was no obvious
damage to the diaphragm or pistons, but the motor felt rough to turn,
and although there's plenty of brush left, the commutator is very
scored.
If anyone wants a go at refurbing the old one (I believe the kit is
around GBP25 from Jabsco), I'm happy to donate it for the cost of the
postage.
If not, I'll chuck it in the skip next week.
All the best
Bruce
There are no strangers on the cut, only boaters we've yet to meet.
