More recently I was told the Atherstone one was 'dangerous to use if boats
were not full length so they are permanently locked. (And it might annoy the
cottage owner.)

==========

The Atherstone one was still usable near the end of last summer.

Yes it's dangerous to use - just the same as ALL the paddles on any lock are
dangerous, the only safe way to use a lock is never to open any paddles or
gates. The side paddle is probably safer than the top paddles!

A couple of years ago when traffic was very busy, the cottage owner came out
and used the side pond to help speed things up.
