As I recall, Percy was from Huddersfield and received one farthing [remember! - them with robin on them!!] for each catseye the DoT installed in UK roads. He lived a reclusive but rich life near Huddersfield after that. In fact Percy Shaw was born in Boothtown Mansion, Halifax. I remember passing his house, many times, on the Queensbury Road from Halifax to Bradford. Article in the Halifax Courier I understand the story is that when he was walking home in the dark he saw lights reflected in the eyes of a cat.
