To be fair, this is a 6 week long project, not just an Easter stoppage,
and the canal remains open throughout. Actually given that the 20 minute
delays will only occur when work is ongoing its a safe bet there will be
no hold up at all over Easter ;-)

Even if there were to be delays over that weekend, pushing it back to
start after Easter takes it into May Bank Holiday, then to Spring
Holiday, then to summer holidays. Surely all those are worse options.

Personally, I don't see the problem but for those who do, there has been
a vaguely similar restriction announced today on the Llangollen, between
the same dates:

Ellesmere Tunnel Restoration Works

Monday 9 March 2009 - Friday 17 April 2009

Navigation will remain open but subject to restrictions. Delays up to
20 minutes should be expected. Signage will be in place both upstream
and downstream of the works and Banksmen will be in place to guide craft
through the works area. Boaters are asked to wait outside the tunnel at
the "wait here for instructions" signs.

Towpath will remain open for the short term. A closure is anticipated
in April but users will be advised nearer the time.

The works are being carried out to reconstruct the existing handrail and
carry out remedial works on the Tunnel Portals.

No stoppage on the canal is required but canal users can expect some
delays whilst work boats are moved to facilitate passage. Banksmen will
be on hand to assist boaters through the work area at all times.
Boaters are asked to wait outside the tunnel until advised.

British Waterways apologise for any inconvenience.
