Once you've got 'em, you'll find there are as many ways of doing the strings as there are people telling you how to do it!
I once spent a lot of time poring over every old photo I could find to settle an argument about the "right" way to do it and found that the above has a long and honourable history! The one thing I would say is that however you do it, do them *all* the same way! I hate seeing half the strings done one way and half done another or worse!! Oh and AFAIC, you don't TIE the side cloth or top cloth strings. You hitch them. If you tie them (as some people do) you'll have a hell of a job getting them off again. Might not matter so much if the cloths are a near permanent feature on a modern boat but a right bugger on a working boat where the cloths had (have) to be taken on and off on a regular basis. Bru
