Of course the effectiveness will depend on whether the pump is
controlled with a built in pressure switch or an external one. The
external one could be after the pump.

The point (which is a good one) is that the pressure switch needs to be
BEYOND the non return valve (i.e. on the bit that remains pressurised).
If the pressure switch is in the pump then the non return valve needs to
be before the pump.

Another thing that will cut down the cycling is a pressure vessel (if
you don't already have one).
