Thanks, Glen, that's useful info. The important "things" are the slope and 
length of the slip (or we could end up with the stern in water but still on 
the trailer and the bows sticking up in the air and nowhere near water. 
Another important bit is whether there is a drop off at the end of the slip. 
This presents no great problem when launching but it makes it a bit tricky 
for the landrover to pull the boat out if the trailer wheels have dropped a 
foot or so off the end of the slip. When we retrieve, the boat weights over 
a ton more as it still has the water ballast in. The boat floats on and off 
the trailer.
The GIG and National are Augusts problems! We have the trip on the Crinan 
and Caledonian to sort out first. These involve slips into the tidal sea 
which can be interesting.
If we accomplish both these canals I think we should definitely be 
considered for the award at the National for adventurous journeys, if there 
is one :-)
