THE INLAND WATERWAYS PROTECTION SOCIETY LTD
Llangollen Canal
(Quoisley to Whitchurch Town Centre.)
10.15am Saturday 6th June 2009
The June walk starts at Quoisley Bridge (SJ 539 464), which is situated on the
A49, 3 miles
north of Whitchurch town centre. From Quoisley the walk will be along the
towpath of the
Llangollen Canal to Whitchurch. Main features along the route include the
three-lock staircase
at Grindley Brook, the Whitchurch Arm, which is in water as far as Chemistry
and the disused
length of the Arm terminating at the site of the former basin in Whitchurch.
The walking
distance is 5½ miles.
Initially the group will meet at the Sherrymill Hill car park (SJ 537 417) in
Whitchurch town
centre from where there will be a car shuttle to the lay-by just beyond
Quoisley Bridge.
Starting from here the group will join the towpath and walk to Grindley Brook,
where we will
break for lunch. Food is available at the lock side café or at the Horse &
Jockey pub, 200 yards
to the north on the A41. After lunch we will continue along the towpath to the
junction with
the former Whitchurch Arm and follow its route to the site of the former basin
in Whitchurch.
As always, stout shoes or boots and waterproofs are recommended.
