With my original reply I was not refering to the pontoons in the mouth of the lock, this is not a good place to try to tie up to because of the wash from passing trip boats,in fact when I landed there it was possitivly dangerous with huges waves slapping into the lock mouth. If the lock is full then you get a futher battering as they let the water out.In my case I had not advised of arrival because I had expected to make St.Katherins dock just upstream but missed the tide window. I have done this passage several times and will not do it again without having a VHF radio. What is required are river pontoons similar to the others along the Thames.CKP
