We've been in York for a couple of days and found out (just as we were about to leave, sadly) that passage through Castle Mills Lock onto the River Foss can now be booked for nothing (or nowt, as they say in these parts), so long as you give 48 hours notice.
It seems like the local IWA have an arrangement with the local council. We were given a copy of the local IWA newsletter, imaginatively called Ouse News, which gives contact details to make a booking. Here they are, if anyone is interested: Email: [email protected] Tel: 07588-236-597 (24-hr answerphone) -- Robin Lewis - nb Locksley
