New to boating and had a little bit of a problem at the weekend and wondered if anyone could help.
Whilst cruising down the Southern Oxford my 2003 beta 43 came up with a fault light on the panel saying that my domestic battery was not charging,This was accompanied by a beep from the panel. I also managed to have a small oil leak from one of the pipes leading to the head at the same time. After mooring up as soon as possible (i.e. after I had got out of the lock!), I fixed the oil pipe with a clip, examined the engine and couldn't see anything wrong. I then decided to empty some of the water from the hull that shouldn't be there! whilst doing this, A bit dropped onto the head area and sparks appeared from the wires running at the back of the engine. I immediately put insulation tape around these to stop any further sparking as the wires had obviously burned through their insulation. I then started the engine and although the red domestic battery light is no longer showing, The panel repeatidly bleeps and seems to quicken as you increase the throttle. Anyone have any ideas? Also if I can't solve it this weekend, Will need to call on the services of a mechanic, Can anyone recomend a good one that will travel to Cropredy. Have been recomended a bloke in Thrupp called Mark or Mathew Parrish but have no contact details for him.
