*“Saving our Canal Heritage”*

The Stoke-on-Trent branch of the Inland Waterways Association invites
you to a free illustrated talk on Friday 9 October 2009, at a venue
alongside the Caldon Canal in Endon.

John Yates is English Heritage’s Historic Building Inspector; a lifelong
canal enthusiast and owner of an historic narrow boat, he gives a
fascinating insight into our national and local waterways heritage.

John is also the English Heritage expert on the panel of the BBC
programme “Restored to Glory” - advising and overseeing extraordinary
historical restorations of listed properties by ordinary people,
including the restoration of 16th century Biddulph Old Hall in
Staffordshire. He explores the history surrounding our waterways
heritage as well as the challenges of maintaining it – and the
importance of saving our unique Canal Heritage.

Talks are open to all and admission is free. Doors open at 7.45pm with
the talk commencing at 8pm at Stoke on Trent Boat Club, Post Lane,
Endon, Stoke-on-Trent ST9 9DT.
