Sorry I inadvertently used the term "rule" in my posting "proposed new
posting rule". The canals-list really operates under "guidelines" (or
"suggestions"). As long-term subscribers know, there is no actual
enforcement, just encouragement. The main principle is to keep the
message exchange flowing, with minimal impediment to those who wish to
post.

So Adrian might continue, if he wishes, to reply to multiple posts in
one, though we would encourage him not to.

Of course, this current post of mine could be said to violate the
guideline, that it should be part of the older thread. However I
believe that many may have stopped reading the older thread, and I
needed a new posting so they can see this clarification.

I admit to having completely forgotten the issue of replies by digest
readers breaking threads. Digest readers should continue to post
as they always have and not concern themselves. Their contributions
are more important than the threading issue. (And digest subscribers
have been doing excellent work on their postings - clipping quotes
from the digest, and marking them as quotes in their replies, can be
annoying.)

Finally, please note that if we had REAL enforcement on this list, a
number of you would be in serious trouble for excessive quoting, which
is a extra burden on those (many on boats) reading the list via slow
connections.
