-----Original Message----- From: Steve Heaven Does anyone (e.g. His exMayorship) know the current state of theDroitwich restoration?
We met a boater today, heading down the S&W for Stourport, who said that he was going that way because it was due to open at Easter. The Droitwich Canals Trust website says "The restored canals are expected to be opened in 2008." Which is perhaps just a little out of date ! Hi Steve and All, The DC will not be open by Easter 2010 and frankly I doubt it will all be open by 2011. The plan was, as the website says, to open much earlier but the recession hit and the planned development that was due to take place, releasing vital 106 money is not now happening. The bit from the River Severn to Droitwich Spa (Barge Canal) will, hopefully, open first. That could happen this year but I have no date at the moment. There is still some dredging work to do. There is also a problem with the Trust itself. Infighting and a proposed merger with another society is hampering future plans of the DC and jobs like keeping the website up to date. The chairman of DC, who has been doing the job for 10 or more years, was recently voted off. A temporary chairman is now in place because having got rid of the chairman, nobody came forward to replace her! I wonder if anyone on this list, who is closer to the goings on than me, would like to comment? HTH Regards Andrew
