Cruising to be Champions? 2
Now it’s Thursday evening the 1st April.
We left Castlefield in Manchester at about 08.15 yesterday and had a really
long, for us, day boating along the Bridgewater, to Daresbury. It rained and it
blew but we kept going until about 17.30hrs after covering about 22 miles. In a
few weeks time that will be two weeks worth of boating.
At least the Bridgewater is wide and deep and gives us chance to “get ahead”
and give the engine a good run after it’s winter of not doing too much.
We stopped a couple of times, at Dunham Massey to go to the farm shop behind
the Axe and Cleaver pub and a second stop was made at Thorn Marine for 100
litres of diesel, at 70p a litre, and 4 bags of excel at £10 a bag.
Doesn’t it bug you paying that much then further down the ‘cut you pass a place
where there has been some hedge or tree trimming and there’s a pile of wood
chippings. Why bother? Some passing boater will soon have the timber away for
firewood.
Today we didn’t move too far, through Preston Brook Tunnel and now moored just
near Acton Bridge on the Trent and Mersey.
We have a shear bolt in our prop shaft on “Patty Ann” and it broke today, just
as we where stopping to work through Dutton stop lock!!! 15 min earlier and
we’d have been legging her out of Preston Brook Tunnel!!
Thanks Baz for the good luck to the 'port
'til next time.....
Colin
