I've put the contributions thus far onto the web page:

I've fixed a few typos and such, and also clarified what canals
certain mentioned lock flights were on. Contributors should
look at that web page to be sure I haven't inadvertently
distorted something.
In my initial posting on this topic, I listed the previous
contributors names to save everyone the trouble of searching the
the web page to see if they had participated so long ago. It was
not supposed to be arm-twisting, so apologies if anyone took it
that way.
Still looking for more old comments to be refreshed, and more
new ones too.
