The Red Lion is the one I was talking about. I couldn't get closer than about three feet out. I did, thank you. Wandered up to the Jolly Angler in Ducie St for my evening's rations. Set off at 6.30am and left the top lock of the nine just under four hours later. The Ashton Canal, now that's a different matter. Suffers greatly from the bottom being too near the top IMHO. Spent the best part of an hour stuck blocking Grimshaw's swing bridge.
