We are still on the K&A and, temporarily, back in Vodafone country

Tues 17 Aug
Great Bedwyn to Hungerford
5 miles; 2 flg - 12 locks;
Start 08:40; Moored up at 14:05

Grey morning which soon turned to fine, light rain, some of it quite
penetrating. Spent so long filling Bedwyn Church Lock [still on 1 ground
paddle for the 3rd year running] that another boat was able to catch us up,
giving us a comfortable run down to Oakfield Down Lock [70], where they winded.
 The pound below Bedwyn Church Lock was well down, some moored boats at quite
alarming angles. Pootled on to Cobblers Lock [75] which wouldn't make a level
until an upcoming boat was used to gently tweak the gates. Lots of space at
Hungerford so we took a chance and winded below the lock before coming back up
and getting a spot on the decent 24hr spaces just above it. This afternoon, in
bright sunshine, I finally got the brass polished [1st time this summer] while
Lynne raided various Hungerford establishments and we felt we thoroughly
deserved the steak dinner we've just enjoyed. Tomorrow we head back westwards
playing dodge-the-stoppages while BW's divers investigate several locks in the
vicinty.
