AIU the manual, it's accurate (given the proviso re measuring a
percentage of the true, current, capacity of the bank) during
discharge, but calculates an estimate on the way up, as the main
system would be calculating the percentage charge of the charger,
since that's what is determining the voltage across the battery at
that time, and of course "percentage charge of the charger" is a
nonsense concept.
Having had one fitted on SA, I'm very pleased with it so far, but time
will tell. The downside is that, as it doesn't have a shunt, it can't
act as an ammeter, so there's no easy way to check the current drain
of the various loads. I'm thinking of getting a simple clamp ammeter
to play with for that purpose.
I guess the complete answer is to have a separate ammeter and the
Smartgauge installed, as the SG is basically a fancy voltmeter.
