Last weekend I mentioned our difficulties soldering leads for power cycling the Nexus 4 to a friend of mine on the Chrome OS team. He said that there's actually a standard serial port for interfacing to the firmware via the headphone jack. Sure enough, there is and someone has already done the work of making a cable for it:
