Received this from Sean and wanted to ensure wider dissemination. The core servers within CI/QA have redundant power supplies that are split between A-side and B-side power so they should be unaffected. The test servers (alkaid, onibi, onza, phac, rukbah, tarf, zmeu and zuijin) only have a single power supply and should be powered down in preparation for the electrical work.
The HP servers used by the cloud testers have redundant power that is split between the two sides; they should be able to stay powered up. The MaaS stack (lenovo-rd230-[01-12]) and the Openstack suite (test-[01-12]) only have single power supplies and should be taken down in preparation for the electrical work. None of the (current) networking infrastructure has redundant power so the switches will go down when the side they are connected to is taken down for the electrical work. This means, simply, that even if the servers have redundant power and stay up for the electrical work you will not have network access to them for a period of time. ~w -------- Original Message -------- Subject: 1SS power disruption Wed Nov 6 (Was: Fwd: Circuit Installation 11/6) Date: Mon, 04 Nov 2013 11:32:01 -0500 From: Sean Sosik-Hamor <[email protected]> Organization: Canonical USA, Inc. To: [email protected] Markley Group maintenance will be doing staggered circuit maintenance in our suite at 1SS Wed Nov 6 from 21:00 - 00:00 EST (02:00 - 05:00 UTC). A-side power will be disrupted for up to 1.5 hours then B-side power will be disrupted for 1.5 hours. This will only impact equipment at 1SS that does not have dual PSUs and dual power feeds (most Certification hardware and QA hardware). All core IS hardware is 2N (dual-power) compliant and will not be impacted. Please pass on to your team members and encourage them to join the 1SS Announce mailing list for future updates. * https://lists.canonical.com/mailman/listinfo/1ss-announce Thanks! -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Circuit Installation 11/6 Date: Mon, 4 Nov 2013 06:35:09 -0800 (PST) From: Chris McLean Reply-To: Chris McLean To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Dear Tenant, Please be advised that we will be installing new electrical circuits in Suite JX. OSHA regulations require us to temporarily shut off power to the panels while installing the circuits. Therefore, we will temporarily shut off power to these panels to perform this work on Wednesday, November 6th, from 9pm-Midnight. During this window your installation will be single corded electrically on one side for approximately 1.5 hours, then single corded electrically to the other side for an additional 1.5 hours. If you are properly dual corded the work will be transparent to you. Since we provide A & B power from separate panels and we require that you adhere to 2N compliance, you will maintain continuous power supported by UPS and generator. However, you will see one side drop while we perform this work. If you are unsure of your current status, please feel free to contact us and we will be happy to assist you.
