In order to schedule downtime for an alert, so that the on-call vanguard doesn't needlessly get pinged for it, please follow these steps:
1) Go to http://nagios.ubuntu-ci/nagios3 2) Click Services 3) Scroll down to the service in question and click on the link for it. 4) Click Schedule downtime for this service. 5) Add a comment explaining why you're scheduling the downtime. 6) Select either a start and end time, or switch to Flexible and provide a number of hours after the first failure to talk to this service that Nagios should accept it being down.
