Ah, yeah, that's confusing. Here's what will work:

   deploy.app.desc "Start mongrel cluster"
   deploy.app.task ...

Or

   deploy.namespace :app do
     desc "Start mongrel cluster"
     task :start ...
   end

I'll rethink the decision to put "desc" as a method of the namespace.
