Thanks for the help Jamis. script/spin and script/process/spawner (and reaper) did not have the executable bit set, and if I set them manually they seem to get reset after a short while. At first I thought running 'cap deploy' commands must have been resetting them but now I realize it must be something else because if I leave them for a minute the permissions will be reset with the executable bit disabled.
