It looks like my problem is that none of the proxy or forwarding
worked because I use one key to access my server and another to access
the remote git repository. Once I added my git key to ~/.ssh and did
one git clone on the server to setup known_hosts, I was able to
deploy. The previous methods all assume you have the same key for
everything.
