I second what Hassan suggested, I used to have a VMware appliance that I
wanted to share, but I stopped using it, and it fell into disrepair.

As Hassan rightly suggests though - this is the safest and most realistic,
as the same process you use to build your slicehost machine can be used to
build a replica VM, and then you have a like-for-like environment to test
against.

Sun's VirtualBox is free (as far as I remember) and both parallels and
vmware are great, great pieces of software - I'm sure you could find trial
versions somewhere.
