Hi,

I'm starting this thread following recent comments in another thread
about supported ruby versions & capistrano.

To summarise, Lee made the following statement concerning ruby 1.8.6:

"it is effectively obsolete; and given it's age, and the catalog of
problems I certainly won't go out of my way to support it here."

I pointed out that Redhat-flavoured platforms (RHEL, CentOS, Fedora,
etc.) all come with ruby 1.8.6, including RHEL6 (still in beta) and
Fedora 13 (just released) so anyone using those platforms is pretty much
stuck with ruby 1.8.6.

It is worth pointing out that the RH builds include a fair amount of
patches that backport fixes from later ruby versions.

I've since found out that kanarip [1] is working ruby 1.9.1 packages [2]
for RH platforms as part of the Koji project [3] but they're not yet
complete/official, I don't believe.

I would therefore suggest that the capistrano project should support
ruby version 1.8.6 until such time as a later version is readily available.

R.
