I've never heard the term 'loopback SSH' but assuming it just means 'ssh
localhost' it doesn't require any special configuration does it?

A *lot* of rails devs could do with learning how to use agent-forwarding. I
see a few copying their passphrase-less private SSH keys to every remote
host instead of simply enabling agent-forwarding.
