Hi, JasperReport is a third party product which we are using in the reporting component. The current version embedded with reporting component is 3.7.1 and it is nearly obsolete now, there are many release afterwards with lot of important improvements and bug fixes[1].
There are many things which can be done in a easier way in new release 4.5.0 than the older version 3.7.1. For an example, with the current version if a user need to have a table format in the report, the design should refer to drawing some rectangles. But in the newer release the design could refer a table component (<table>) and have different characteristics of columns in report. Likewise there are many improvements such as better support for pdf, xls format of reports, customizing the table and column properties, etc [1]. And also our current reporting component allows the user to have his own report design, and with this older version of jasper report the user will not be able to have most of his requirement, need to face a difficulty in designing the report as explained above. The latest release is 4.5.0, and I think it will be great if we upgrade the version to 4.5.0 and go ahead with the latest release. Furthermore, the 4.5.0 has backward compatibility with the current version 3.7.1, so I don't think it'll break any code in reporting component. Please give your suggestions.
