The variable load-path shows the directories searched for Elisp  
files. With Carbon Emacs you have one problem: all of them are inside  
this application's bundle. Anything you add there will be  
extinguished when you update by dropping a new version into the  
Applications folder! So if you do not want to re-install once every  
month (or stop updating) you'd need to find an external place, / 
Library/Application Support/Emacs once was such a place that has been  
dropped one or two years ago without reason or documentation. A more  
private target can be ~/Library/Application Support/Emacs.  
Nevertheless, they would need to be added to load-path!
