The problem would be much deeper... It is very strange that
$writable_dir variable is an empty string (not null). This look similar
to the initial problem of Diego with the older version of Care2x. I
suspect that there is something wrong with the configuration of the PHP
engine.

Diego, how did you install the PHP? Is it manual installation you use
some WAMP package? As far as I know PHP4-compatible XAMPP package gives
best results with Care2x on Windows.
