Hi Robert,
In my messages after the one you replyied I gave an idea for "integration"
using HXP or HL7.
This will allow you even more freedom.
I know that some ERP here are in fact made in Java and are not at all webed
but plain desktop apps with TCP-IP connectivity. Other apps are using JSP.
I think those guys that produce the ERP (wish is already there) could be
more sensible to communicate with Care2x without opening their app than the
reverse.
Giving them an easy protocol like HXP (or knowable one like
HL7) and good tutorials on how to build their
own XHP client would be greater than trying to take their bread from
their mouth (as they understand it).
For instance, in my distrital hospital the app used by doctors is a web
centric one very nice in what respects to usability and made in JSP with
access via MS Windows XP's IExplorer
The administative staff
that make the appointments and charges the bill uses an mainframed-based app
(looks like Informix) and text only terminals.
Doctors can also make apointments that will be payed and confirmed by the
administrative staff.
It seems that they use the same database. Notice that the doctors system
arrived later and have to adapt itself to the existing environment, and that
is what usually happens :)
Best,
Lopo

Hello Lopo,
that is true. For us we have a direct requirement - there is a ERP needed.
So I have also looked for free and open source ERP system and found some (
But your list is really nice). For the first step I planned to go the
quite
easiest way: Use an ERP system with the same technical conception: PHP and
Mysql. Aim: to scratch up interfaces. Next would be integration of other
ERP
system and to find standardized interfaces.
You mentioned that the ERP system should not even integrated to care2x.
Yes
and no. typically answer from accounting people I would say:-). The
usability, the user acceptance is really important. So it should have a
feeling of integration. These psychological aspects are important by the
acceptance of the software and of the user - who have the feeling just to
use a web application and not a really stupid complex ERP system like SAP.
Risks of staff making mistakes in reason of having fear of -seeming-
complex
software is higher than using a ERP system what not fulfil each
requirement
but can be added later.

Betreff: Re: [Care2002-developers] Care2x and SimpleInvoice Integration
Hi all,
My modest opinion on this is that Care2x should have a plugin that would
allow external access to data to the
billing applications, some sort of SOAP or even based on XHP server that
is
already there.
Making modules for external ERP packages to talk to Care2x would be a
better
idea and would require a small branch to coordinate that.
Many entities have their own billing application and fiscal and taxation
policies are too diferent from
country to country that you don't have a real FOSS application that can do
it all without a lot
of tweakning. There are already several F/OSS ERP/CRM packages (
<http://www.principiolegal.com/software/erpcrm.php>
http://www.principiolegal.com/software/erpcrm.php) and each entity should
be
able to choose it freely.
Also, billling staff in most hospitals are not even related with operating
staff so they don't even need to deal with this. They just need to have
acess to costumers, exams, medicines and other medical events and
prices don't need or even should be inside Care2x (although it could have
eventually access with plugins).
Tightly integrating an ERP with Care2x will bloat it more and will force
many to hardcode it out.
In Portugal all national state hospitals and public institutions must use
a
special kind of fiscal policy that is diferent from private sector and
even
diferent from local autorities; so two hospitals (one private and one
public) will have huge problems with a tightly integrated ERP.
SimpleInvoice is neat but completely useless in our fiscal environment
here.
Just my opinion.
Best,
Lopo
