Hello All,

We have been looking for different approaches to mobilize Care2x. I do not mean
now
symbolic meaning of mobilizing people to work for Care2x, which we have been
discussing
last weeks. But I mean real mobile version of Care2x and in our context to
smaller units.

There are several options and simplest and firs step is to strip down the
present Care2x from
all what is not needed and make the front end fit in small screens. In this
version mobiles
would be used as clients like we use now computers. I think this is quite
realistice approach.
When we do not use much keyboard input but mainly selection lists it should be
possible in
small screens and mobile browser, best with qwerty but works also without in
points where
hardly any typing is needed. We have been testing one clinical application with
mobile phone,
which is also using option lists and users seem to be happy with it. We have
good hopes to
get funding for this version.

Another version we have discussed is Android mobile version, where the whole
system is in
the phone. That would need a lot more work when the software should be
translated to Java
and use the Android database. That would be Care2x "anywhere anytime" when no
computer
maintenance is needed. People in developing countries are familiar with phones,
but less
with computers and less training would be needed. Power failures, computer
crashes and low
skills have been problems in our project. This version would run also in
tablets and
minicomputers using Android system. OpenMRS is allready ported to Android and
shows the
same can be done with Care2x also. This version is further in the future.
If other mobile OS is considered they would need another version and it is not
easy to make
version on all platforms.

Bring your ideas in this new direction of development.

Mauri Niemi
