Hi Jill,

I found the problem. Caret does not like your palette files because they do not end with a blank line. If you add a blank line at the end of each of your palette files, caret will read them without complaining. I will add this problem to my list of Caret tasks.

If you add a blank line at the end of your palette files and you still have problems reading them, you can download a newer version of Caret5. Go to the website "http://brainmap.wustl.edu/pub/john/";. You will need to use the username "pub" and the password "download" to access the site. Get the file caret5_linux_exe.tar.gz which contains just the caret5 executable. Place this file into your caret distribution's "bin" directory. Rename your existing caret5 to something like caret5_old so that you can use it if you experience problems with this new version of caret5. Run the command "tar xvfz caret5_linux_exe.tar.gz" followed by the command "chmod a+rx caret5". The next time you start caret5 it will be the new one.

Let me know if this still does not fix the problem.

John,
Well, it does not work on my linux box either. Here are some palette
files. The error is

Error while acessing FILENAME
Premature end of file. Is file damaged?

Thanks,
Jill

Hi Jill,

If you rename the *.pal file to a *.palette file will Caret read it?
If not, send the palette file directly to me so that I can determine
why Caret will not read it. I will then make a newer version of Caret5
available to you.

I just installed version 5.1 of caret on a linux platform. I use
caret
to display group analyses from AFNI, so I make metric files of my AFNI
maps. I also use AFNI's palette (*.pal) files so that the clusters
stay
the same colors across different displays.
The problem is I could not open an AFNI palette file in version 5.1.
The open file dialog looks for a *.palette file and not a *.pal file.
How can I use the palette I create in AFNI with caret? I would like
the
clusters to be the same colors in my pictures from AFNI and my
pictures
from caret.

Thanks,
