Hi Terry,

A better graphics card probably will not solve this problem. On the Preferences Dialog, selectable from the File Menu, verify that the Display Lists Enabled checkbox is checked. If you are able to easily manipulate a caret surface in the main window, your graphics card is sufficient.

The problem with the Display Control Dialog taking a long time to appear appeared after the version 4 upgrade of the QT software (which creates the user-interface). The Display Control is very large, and I intend to rewrite it in the (hopefully) near future so that it no longer uses QT3 legacy code and so that it only creates its many sub- pages as they are needed.

Hi Donna and David,

I tried changing the performance options - there is an "Adjust for best performance" button which turns all the unnecessary visual effects off, including the 'show window contents while dragging'. This really speeded up
the computer, but only marginally affected the loading of the display
control. I'm looking into getting a better graphics card, as the problem seems
to be there. Thanks.
