Dear Dr. Labus,
To begin on a general note, we are very keen to promote exactly what
you're doing - putting stereotaxic-coordinate data (foci) into Caret
(and as a next step into SumsDB for public access). Hence, we want
to make sure that this tutorial actually works for investigators like
yourself.
The tutorial should work fine on Windows - we certainly have run it
through its paces previously. It's possible that there is a glitch
in the software or in the dataset. Before chasing that possiblity
any further, though, please note the following in-line comments and
suggestions.

I am flummoxed. I really like the looks of caret but have had no
luck with past or present versions trying to do something which i
expect should be easy for the program, namely map stereotaxic
coordinates i from my own research onto the atlases.
I have down loaded the newest version 5.5 along with tutorials and
necessary spec files to attempt tutorial 5.2.2 but my efforts were
unsuccessful. Has anyone tried this tutorial in Windows with success?
As an aside: I found that the documentation doesn't quite follow
the options that are given while performing the routine. For
example, When i select the PALS_B12.BOTH.Test-STEREOTAXIC-FOCI.
73730.spec the program is prompting me regarding overwriting the
file or not and the documentation does not specify what to do.
When you first download the dataset, there should be no file named
PALS_B12.BOTH.Test_STEREOTAXIC-FOCI.73730.spec and you should not
receive this prompt.
If you're repeating part 5 of the tutorial, then this prompt will
appear. In that case it's ok to overwrite the file. (We will
modify the tutorial document accordingly.)
Is windows the wrong platform to be using? Does this platform have
more bugs than say MAC OSX?
As check, where do i find the spec files...i found them in the C:
\Program Files\Caret\caret5_help\tutorials\CARET_TUTORIAL_SEPT06
\MAPPING_PROCEDURES?
YES
The first scene that come up is not AVG Fiducial Dorsal...in fact
this scene does not come up for me.
I double-checked, and it works for me (admittedly on a Mac not a PC,
but that really shouldn't matter). Please try again and make sure
that you select
PALS_B12.BOTH.TEMPLATE-Map_STEREOTAXIC-FOCI.73730.spec
AND NOT: Human.PALS_B12.BOTH.TEMPLATE-for-fMRI-MAPPING.73730.spec
The latter spec file contains a different scene file and would indeed
cause problems if inadvertently selected.
If you still have problems, let us know and we will help chase them
down.
Any direction would be appreciated.
I hope this helps. And if there are other suggestions for improving
the tutorials, let us know.
