The problem is that you're just getting too good at flattening.

Hi Akiko,
You are actually not running into a problem at all. The flat_cycle5_overlap_smooth is not always created if the surface doesn't need that extra little attention at the end. If CARET is happy with the surface that is created by flat_cycle5 then it will stop processing at that point. A flat_cycle5_overlap_smooth.coord will be generated if there is a section on the flat surface that is overlapped (for example) on another. So it will massage the surface until the overlap is no longer present. So sorry for the confusion. You can continue with the rest of the flattening steps using the flat_cycle5 surface.

Hello,

I have been baving problem with the last step of surface flattening; flat_cycle5_overlap_smooth.coord is not created (flat_cycle5.coord is there). I'm following the manual ("Caret5 Tutorial Segmentation and Flattening version 5.2, April 2005") to do all steps from "Surface Flattening" to "Aligning the Surfaces to Standard Orientation", and often encounter this problem. For now, I'm going back to the very beginning to redo all, and it seems to work on the second round. 1. What would be the cause of this problem (not creating flat_cycle5_overlap_smooth.coord)? 2. Is it possible to create flat_cycle5_overlap_smooth.coord from flat_cycle5.coord without going back all the way to the first step? 3. Is there a new manual that covers this section?

Thanks in advance, Akiko
