I was hoping that one of the tools I mentioned was easily available, so Irene could check the header directly. As for getting plumb data through freesurfer, it may be best to fake the sform, compute the affine between them, run freesurfer on the faked sform version, then (if needed) reapply the real sform and transform the surface with the computed affine after freesurfer finishes.
