Victor, First, I want to make sure you want to learn to use the old caret5 program -- not the new Caret workbench that is used for Human Connectome Project. If you want to view HCP data, you can download workbench here:

Section 5.1 covers the most popular feature. I don't think either covers less used features like editing segmentations. As for the quick start tutorial, I get the same result when logged in as donna, so Van Essen Lab permissions don't solve the problem.
