Hi!
We are having trouble getting Caret to start on our Linux system.
It complains about the version number of libstdc++. Explicitly adding the
path to bashrc did not improve things. Our IT support claims that we have a
newer version installed and would like to know if you have compiled a
supported RHEL5 version or provide the source so we can do it. Please see
details in the attached email below.
We are running Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.9 (Tikanga).
Thanks!

Hi
I don't think this is an age issue.
compat-libstdc++-33-3.2.3-61.x86_64 is THE 3.x version libstdc++ for redhat
5.
compare your binary
./caret5: ELF 64-bit LSB executable, AMD x86-64, version 1 (SYSV), for
GNU/Linux 2.6.8, dynamically linked (uses shared libs), not stripped
to as an example ssh
/usr/bin/ssh: ELF 64-bit LSB shared object, AMD x86-64, version 1 (SYSV),
for GNU/Linux 2.6.9, stripped
Notice the native file has a higher number.
Here is redhat's document on C version numbers.

libstdc++ 3.4.x is standard on the decommissioned unsupported RHEL 4.
So it wants a version of Linux that is older than supported. Of course
there is a compatibility lib for redhat, libstdc++. It's ported directly
from RHEL 4, but the version of C that caret5 wants was never supported
there.
This is as far as RHEL 4 ever went.
libstdc++-devel-3.4.6-11.el4_8.1
I don't think this binary program was ever supported on Redhat. Perhaps
compiled on Debian? Those versions were not even available on RHEL 4. You
should contact the developer and ask him if he can compile a supported
RHEL5 version or provide the source so you can do it. Usually binary
programs need to be compiled for a specific distro RHEL5, RHEL6, etc.
I checked the support file (from the README)
No information about distros or versions.

installation.html
Sorry I don't think we can help without knowing what it was compiled for.
Even then it may require a whole separate installation of Linux to run it.
