So, just to make sure I understand, just create a file named cartoclient.tpl that contains the code you included, and overwrite the cartoclient.tpl file in the project's templates folder?
Also, as far as translation from French to English goes, when you describe measuring a surface, I think a more accurate description would be measuring an area. A surface implies that you are the surface area based upon the physical shape of a surface in 3D rather than a 2D planimetric area.
