Hi John,
Yours is a question about making use of CAS rather than about
collaborating on developing the CAS server product itself, so it more
properly belongs on cas-user@ rather than on this list, but I'll try not
to be too grumpy about that since I'm trying to sell you something :)
The set of CAS Solution Providers is small but of very high quality, if
you don't mind my saying so.
Unicon, my employer, is the only CAS Solution Provider recognized by Jasig.

While the company is headquartered in Arizona, Unicon has done work
throughout the United States and specifically with schools in the
Chicago area (and these day's I'm personally based out of Michigan).
The company certainly has references and a documented history of
successful CAS server deployment and support.
Just yesterday I wrote this post documenting the Q4 2010 history of
Unicon's support program's contributions to CAS development:

I'll be more than happy to introduce you to an account manager who can
provide some of that background information and work with you to scope
your client's project. I'll follow up with you shortly via direct email.
Best wishes,
Andrew

We are working with a large non profit that may want to use CAS for
their SSO. Their main reservation is the number of vendors listed on
the Jasig CAS website. Are we looking in the wrong spot?
Ideally we are looking for an established vendor in the Chicago area,
but this is not nearly as important as someone that has references and
a documented history of CAS development and support.
The project involves:
Development:
- Write CAS authentitcation handler that uses imis as the backend.
- Do imis CASification
Administration
- Install CAS
Maintenance:
- Update and patch CAS installation.
